In comes HOKA with another carbon plate racing shoe for under $200. Unlike the Carbon X, however, there's no uncertainty in classifying the Rocket X. It's thoroughly a long-distance racing shoe.
Lighter, less cushioned, and with less upper structure than the Carbon X, the Rocket X is as stripped down as a shoe can be. And what's surprising is that you won't feel like your feet are being punished.
To be fair, the Rocket X's unisex sizing and slight heel slip are issues that aren't necessarily present with other racing shoes, but the Rocket X feels more like a road shoe than others, and you can't expect a thoroughbred to come without a little drama.
If you're looking to break your personal best marathon or 10k time then look no further. The Rocket X is the shoe for you.
